After Renoir at Orsay, it's Matisse who invites himself to the Grand Palais until July 26th! As the exhibition focuses on the years 1941-1954, perhaps we will see the work of Henri Matisse in this Pathé newsreel of 1949?


We will never know what picture Renoir painted in front of the camera during the day, but this rare document shows us the intimacy and connivance that linked Ambroise Vollard, friend and dealer, to the painter with such a keen gaze always at work despite his rheumatism, which is said to have painted until his last breath...


Signed seventy years ago, it accompanied the return from exile of Sultan Mohammed V and was celebrated with splendour during the Throne Day in Fez in 1966. This event was filmed by Bernard Rouget, photographer, man of letters and filmmaker, who followed the King on numerous trips to the Middle East. His images can be found in the films “Connaissance du Monde” as well as in unedited rushes entrusted to GP Archives by his rights holders.


While the Centre Pompidou is undergoing a makeover, its programming continues beyond its walls. From June to December 2025, the legendary couple Nikki de St Phalle and Jean Tinguely will be honored at the Grand Palais, filmed here by Pathé in 1961. (Ref: 1961 33 2)


GP archives is proud to announce that a digitally restored copy of “The First Air Travel Throughout Europe” – a 90-minute film directed by Charles Metzger produced by Gaumont in 1922 – will be previewed at the Budapest Classics Film Marathon on September 18, 2025. The film has been reedited in accordance with the original version and digitally restored from the nitrate negatives prints stored by GP archives.
